Welcome to Mountain Meadows Mead!
We are a unique family-owned Meadery located in a small town in California's northern Sierra Nevada Mountains. We specialize in Meads and fruit wines made with honey, and have been in commercial production since 1996. We produce our Meads from scratch, using premium honeys and local mountain spring water.

A Winery in the Mountains
Imagine a wine made from the nectar of wildflowers and mountain spring water. Known in olden times as 'Nectar of the Gods', Mead is a delicious natural wine made from honey. Mountain Meadows Mead is a unique, award-winning micro-winery located in the northern Sierra in Westwood, California. We specialize in Meads and fruit wines made with honey.

Our Meads are made from wildflower honey from Surprise Valley - in the far Northeastern Corner of California, and with our local mountain spring water. Our fruit wines are fermented from fresh fruit and honey. Our Cranberry Mead is made from cranberries grown on the Oregon Coast, our Organic Peach Mead uses fresh fruit from Woodleaf Farms, near Oroville, California, and our Agave Mead is made from honey and Blue Agave Nectar from Old Mexico.

Award-winning Quality
Our Meads have been well received at Renaissance Faires, Brewfests and at Wine Festivals Across the United States. Both our Honeymoon Nectar and Spice Nectar Mead (Metheglin) received Gold Medals in the 1999 Mazer Cup, the 2002 Chicago Mead and Cider Festival, and the 2004 Mead and Cider Festival in Boulder, Colorado.
Since then our Honeymoon Nectar has won Gold Medals for Traditional Mead in the 2005 and 2006 International Mead Festivals. Our Cranberry Honeywine came home from Chicago with a Silver Medal, and won a Bronze in Boulder in 2006. Click here to read more...

A family business
Ron Lunder is the founder of the company and the Meadmaker, and his wife, Peggy Fulder, heads up marketing and management. Our start-up was financed with the help of our families. Our son Zeke Lunder designs labels, graphics, and acts as webmaster. Our daughter Sonya is helping to promote Mead in the San Francisco Bay Area, and our son Nils was involved in all aspects of the start-up of production.

Our business grew from a hobby
Our business grew from a hobby. We began experimenting with honey beverages in l987. As homebrewers we soon won awards at the California State Fair and in national Mead competitions. With this encouragement, we began to build the winery in the summer of 1992. Commercial production began in the fall of 1995, and we began marketing in the summer of 1996.

Distribution
We are self distributing our meads in California, Oregon, and Washington. We run regular deliveries on the I-5 corridor between Sacramento and Portland, and also service areas on the Northern California and Oregon Coasts. We are located on Third Street in Westwood, California. Westwood is located on Highway 36, 21 miles west of Susanville, and about 1.5 hours east of Red Bluff.
